Iboga

Iboga (botanically Tabernanthe iboga) is a shrub found in the tropics of Central Africa, the roots of which are used ritually in this region, especially in initiation ceremonies. In the West, it is mainly the synthesized active ingredient ibogaine that is used therapeutically. Iboga has the special property of alleviating physical withdrawal in the case of addiction with a single session, although this can overlook the entire psychological causes of the addiction itself, which still require treatment. The effects of Iboga can last up to 24 hours. Apart from the treatment of addiction, it is rarely used therapeutically. Its use is Legal in Germany and Austria, but prohibited in Switzerland.
